A private carrier is not required to cover a pre-existing coverage as far as I know--only the insurance company I already have (or will have until and if I opt not to continue coverage because of the cost to do so.) If you have current health insurance then you do need to contact them about this. Usually there is only dropping if you were on your parents insurance and now married you are not.
